'Singing is the best part of living to me'
It's March 1959, 'round midnight and Billie Holiday is making a comeback at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a favourite jazz haunt in Philadelphia. In four short months Lady Day will be dead. This is your final opportunity to witness the legend perform iconic songs and share stories from her stormy life with all the sass and wisdom you would expect from the queen of the blues.
Acclaimed singer songwriter Anthony Leatham is Billie Holiday in this daring new production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill in the intimate, candlelit surroundings of the Marlborough Theatre.
Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill was first produced in New York by the Vineyard Theatre in 1986.
This production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill is being supported by Pink Fringe, Brighton's new organisation dedicated to the promotion of queer and LGBT arts projects (www.pinkfringe.org.uk).
