Crimes of the Heart
A Shot in the Dark Productions present: Crimes of the Heart, by Beth Henley
The play centres on the trials and tribulations of the three McGrath sisters who reunite at the family home in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Meg is dealing with a failing singing career, Lenny faces the prospect of a life alone and Babe is on the verge of going to jail for shooting her husband. Into this mix come; their brassy cousin Chick, the fervent defence lawyer Barnette and Meg's old boyfriend Doc.
The themes of broken dreams, destructive relationships and Southern stoicism through it all are handled intimately, poignantly but ultimately with underlying humour and vivacity.
A Shot in the Dark Productions are a small Edinburgh based theatre company, who aim to champion new talent. Previous productions include Office Song, Etcetera Theatre London "Overall this is a wonderful theatre production, it's funny without being ridiculous and smart without being intense. I would keep an eye out for "A Shot in The Dark" productions, if they manage to churn out more pieces like this, I could see them making a big impact" Remote Goat
Crimes of the Heart is directed by Joel Mason, who's most recent production East of the Sun and West of the Moon had a successful run at the Roxy Art House, "an enjoyable hour of entertainment which sweeps the young audience into a magical and inventive land of imagination, with a creative vision and originality that is a pleasure to behold" Edinburgh Spotlight, "It's encouraging to see a production that appeals to both children and adults that doesn't undermine their intelligence."
